No, not for the Throat, that's Beer!

I've not long received the Penn Surfblaster @Tatunka joe kindly sent me as promised, so a huge thanks to Paul - a truly Diamond Geyser!

As Paul said, it needs a bit of a clean up & service, so a quick question.

I know Penn do their own reel oils & greases, but as we all know, anything with a fishing brand name on it usually commands twice the price.
Any recommendations, tips and tricks for servicing fixed spools, and what lubricants to use will be gratefully received!

I’d just use three in one oil and a bit of ordinary grease for the gears.

Not the most user friendly things to service!

They’re not really like a multi where you need to take care with the bearing oil etc to ensure a smooth/fast running spool, so I think as long as you’ve got oil/grease on the moving parts (depending on what parts you’re lubricating), it’s all good.
Imo anyway.

KY Jelly is a good Lube, so i am told. ;)

As Mr Fish and stan m said, and you should be good.

Ian.

Loads of info on YouTube Trampster. I'd also give the Alan Tani site a good look. I use Yamaha Marine Blue grease (possibly the same stuff Penn sells) for main gears. 3 in 1 with PTFE for line rollers etc. ACF 50 applied sparingly as an overall external corrosion guard. (Lubricating fast bearings such as those found in multiplier spools requires other oil options). If your struggling or don't fancy it just send it to me and I'll do it for you FOC mate👍

Thanks Tony, Pete, Al, Stan & Wingnut.
No issues with taking things apart, and as mentioned, Youtube is a good source of info. I'm pretty good with the tools in my box, including the Hammer in the bottom drawer! I've got plenty of standard grease, & oil similar to 3 in 1.

Al, I'll have a search for Alan Tani, I'll also try to get some 3 in 1 with PTFE. Somebody who is a Biker as well as an Angler recommended Scottoiler FS365 to me for anti-corrosion on fishing gear, including Rods & Reels. Although meant for bikes, It dissolves Salt, and gradually builds up a protective layer. Guessing it's similar to ACF50.

I don’t think they need anything special mate and tbh yours don’t get very heavy use.
But doesn’t hurt to use products you have confidence in.

Outboard grease is better to resist salt water but unless you’re using the reels constantly I wouldn’t be too particular about it.
