15th. Saturday. Town Quay Southampton.
Target was a sand smelt. Tiny hooks and a "snippet of rag " on my spinning rod did the business. Ended up with 5 or 6.

Target achieved, l thought about going home, but my new fishing mate (just met) persuaded me to stay for another hour!
Changed tactics on another rod using fish baits for a gurnard. When fishing for these, it sometimes pays to range the rods in occassionally (works for flat fish too) and just after a few winds in, l had a bite giving me this lovelly tub gurnard.Glad l stayed!

Still got time left before the hour runs out, mostly spent catching small whiting and sand smelt on the small rod. Had a different sort of bite and up came a surprise sand Goby giving me 3 species for the session. Well worth staying on for!

17th. Monday. Hythe.
Target was a flounder and it came on the first cast. Rag worm tipped with squid on a rig with the kitchen sink of beads and flashy little spoons on it. Flounder used to be 10 a penny back in the day, but much more scarce now in Southampton Estuary. Always causes interest on local Facebook pages. That gave me 16 species.

29th. Wednesday. Southbourne.
Got an invite from @Southbourner to fish past midnight for his birthday. I was last there, so was the last guy fishing to the West and a way away from the others so sorry l did not get to speak to them.
Rag bait tipped with squid popped out and big fish baits put at range. The rag was attracting double shots of whiting and pout. Had a much stronger take fairly early in the session resulting in this! Well happy!

Continued fishing with lots of whiting coming to both rods including a decent whiting for my lunch today! Past midnight and l am the only sad Muppet on the beach and the cold is seeping through a bit now. Fresh baits and last cast I decide.

Sent them back out and straight away the rag rod goes and l can feel it's not a whiting. Well it was a whiting, but also another decent sole. Put the two Sole together for a group picture!

Pretty good few days all in all and 17 species to date.
