Went out last night just a couple of very small congers.I know about the snags from the old pier but myself and another Angler lost a few sets of gear to solid snags that we could not pull free from. This was well east of the old pier.Going to spend a couple of hours making up replacement rigs today.

have found the same there in the past, despite being well east of the old pier, often found snags at distance either solid or pulled into them on retrieve no idea what it is but seems worse at different states of the tide . sometimes wonder if there are line snags or old lengths of rope hanging off the remains of the pier or maybe the line pulls up and over a ridge from deep water a bit like magazine lane used to, might still do , havnt fished snaggy alley in years

grounds have always been shit n snaggy, from the point towards the pier, not in the same places every day, but pretty much the same places with corresponding tides
fished it from the age of 3 to 21 all along there before the move north
far prefer the haslar side of the point, but be prepared to lose more gear

all round gillkicker is a natural bin, and all sorts of shit get washed into the ground and stays there, and considering the tide flows slightly differently depending on size, thats what makes certain marks clear or snaggy on any given size tide.
the tide only needs to shift a degree or 2, and that 100--200m length of 3 inch hawser will swing either just into or just out of casting range ;)
same as all the old net snags that get washed into the bin
its absoultly snided with shit down there, run over in a boat at slack water and look at the features, they are a mess

Well done on the congas 👍
