First off I hope you all had a good Christmas mine was quiet just how I like it now for the good stuff.
As the title states the yearly Get Carter comp was today I've entered this comp for the last 20 odd years the best I've ever done was come second two years ago. Today was different I didn't win but everything went to plan.
I managed to get my hands on 30 yellow tails 10 days ago out came my bucket and aerator and charging water every 24 hrs only lost 3.Today arrived and off to my local beach I headed I fished on what was the old pit flight where they emptied the buckets into the sea which was filmed in the get carter movie hence the name of the competition. I registered at 0730 £10 entry and was on the beach at 0830.The comp started at 10am I had to get my spot. With the forecast being crap and the tide being crap I decided on a two hook flapper I'm a pulley rig man myself but needs must. There wasn't going to be many codling caught as the sea has been flat since storm Darragh. With the trap set it was a waiting gameThere didn't seem to be many on the beach but me and my mate Dan weren't bothered more beach for us to fish.
I started well i had what I think was a place at 34cm followed by a flounder or dab at 31cm then another place at 31 cm. Then it died right off about 11.30 when the sunshine came out, just after high water at 1pm it clouded over again, great no sunshine, but it got bloody cold with it . About 2pm I managed a lil coalie and returned him. Now and again some mates fishing different locations would phone me with a catch report of what was been circulated by other anglers there wasn't much being caught anywhere. The comp ended at 3 pm my total bag 3 squashed fishBack at the weigh in I had 3 for 950g on my scales it was 2lb 12oz. Apparently 140 fished the comp. The heaviest fish a small codling won £500 it weighed 900g? What happened to pounds and ounces old school?
I managed to come 16th and won £50 there were 17 prizes altogether so although I didn't win it I got something .My mate Dan wouldn't listen to me and was chucking donkey choker cart wings out on 6/0 pulley rigs trying to catch a cod that wasn't there and blanked.
As the forecast is going to be crap for the next week or two, so I'll not be bait fishing as there'll be no coding about till it gets a good stir up and don't want to be wasting good bait. So I'll be chucking lures out for bass. I'm yet to get a 60cm but I'll keep trying. Till the next report you lot have fun and a cracking new year .
