chesil, ferrybridge section. had great plans to fish a day tide but overslept & buggered about with home/family stuff.

fished about 1700-0430, complete bloody madness. planed on walking out past the bird sanctuary but a mixture of dark, cold & apathy descended which left me over the bank somewhere between the adelaide and the start of the sanctuary.
low tide was for about 22oo, spring tide and no moon. the skys started clear but the cloud filled in later. wind started northerly , then went around westerly , increased then went southerly bringing rain/sleet. swells looked to be about a meter, but a little choppy.

rigs were,- up n overs /pulleys/ tronix bait capsule.

baits, - froze lug, froze squid, froze bluey, old ting fillets.

with baits fired out i sat to watch. not much happening, noted a few other lights off away either side of me. the ebb found just a few pouts, i set a live bait rig to catch one , caught a bait but nothing took an interest. had one rod dragged into a snag on my left that would not budge & had to break out
caught a poor cod for the specie count followed by a small strap of 3-4 which almost got me

about low tide it turned and ran hard left to right for a while , before changing direction, with that came the whiteing and the rain. hoped i might be able to fish through the tings to find something better but after while was just waiting for a break in the rain to pack up.

was absolutely drowned by 04 and started packing up anyway. this is when the rain stopped leaving me with a soggy steamy drive home.

All had days like that?
Thanks for a good read though ?

Good report well done on the fish??

Well done on sticking it out and catching in not great sounding conditions (y) (y)

Are wind conditions always that changeable on chessil?

I’ve not been there yet but plan on going, but looks like I need to plan it well

Any tips are welcome. Location. Wind/tide. Hearing the horror stories of people getting dragged out to sea has alway put me off tbh!

Nice busy session there mate. Shame the live bait didn’t work. Always next time though.
I’m hoping to get out later, looks like a savage cross wind atm but should see a fish or two hopefully.

Have the live bait a shot but suspect there was a lot of colour in the water. Have been told in past that they arnt likely to work till the water clarity fines down

Hi. Tips- I know nothing. If there were any secret marks I knew about I'd be fishing there and finding better fish. Generally I've heard the middle bit that is difficult to access is doing better but I'm not seeing many consistent reports from anywhere. Except consistant tings. There have been a lot of opinions posted about safe conditions to fish chesil. I feel a lot of the decision has to be personal choice about what you are prepared to face. There are lots of sources regarding forecasted weather for Chesil on line. Personally if the wàves are at or above 2.5m and not due to drop I'll give it a miss. AnotherThing I wouldn't do- pitch bivvy on high tide Mark. At cogden end the beach is quite flat, use distance away from surf to stay safe. Portland end you can use both height and distance to say away from the breaking surf. Waves at Portland end are generally bigger when there is South or West in the wind direction.
