South West Brixham, The Report!!

Nothing like home at all… I kinda felt safe but didn’t at the same time if that makes sense. I’m sure in daylight it would’ve been fine but not knowing where you are or where you’re going makes it a whole different ball game!! Im glad I didn’t blank for sure but congers are such snotty beasts

They had someone jump from up top before also when i fished there one night we had plod all over looking for a jumper type!
Mind think could be the Ghost as never found or saw them.

Great write up and well done on getting some fish.
We fished that concrete platform when the boat we had booked was cancelled last year, great for wrasse in the daylight.

The fishing can be excellent there but there are drawbacks.

The platform shouldn't be hard to find at night, when I last fished there the stagnant water pools full of beer cans. wrappers and mackerel guts gave a distinctive odour that almost masked the smell of piss.

As for taking home the litter you found, well done but there must have been over-topping waves recently to wash the place clean, in a normal summer after a period of calm weather you'd need a pick up and one of those one ton building material bags.

Good effort mate. Sounds as if you lost a bigger eel. Either that or a huss but usually huss aren’t quite that determined.

Would have thought what you saw was a dolphin but who knows?

I’m sure normally you’d do this, but always better to see new marks like that in a little bit of daylight, just gives you a better sense of where you are.
Saying that I’ve done a few Channel Islands rock marks in the dark when I didn’t have a bleddy clue where I was going lol
I would’ve checked it out earier given the chance but it just never happened that way… what with kids, wife etc, I was lucky I got to go at all really!!
I’m fairly sure it was a bigger eel, it just wouldn’t budge after a while

To be fair, the whole place was surprisingly clean, I didn’t really spot any other litter about. One of the pools on the top did look decidedly yellow though! ?

Glad you only told me that now, it was spooky enough as it was without things like that in the back of my mind!! …..not that I believe in ghosts but the mind does play it’s tricks

great read, haven't been down there for ages, can remember when you could drive down to the bottom , have found a few fish there but nothing massive

Is that 2nd pic a dragonet?
yes, probably the last one i caught, t'other fish as i spec you can see was a small codling there were a few about that year. spent many happy hours as a youth on hols fishing around brixham, lots of different species but never seemed to find any thing huge ( wasn't really geared for it) spent most of my time on the rocks at battery gardens , last time down found it to be plagued with 3inch pollock. back at berryhead one year found a huge ravenous shoal of dabs out on the sand. & driveing a vauxhall chevette back up out of the quarry felt a bit twitchy

At first glance I thought the first pic was a bass! Closer inspection and I see the chin barb!
…I wouldn’t want to drive down that path, especially in the dark!!
