The Angling Section of CBYC had its first "proper comp" yesterday following all the Covid19 restrictions and weather setbacks this year.
"The Chicken Run" is one of 24 bi-monthly competitions held by the club with an emphasis on members wining a free chicken for Xmas, it is usually "Cod preference" as well due to the cod season starting in local waters, and this means an in size Cod has preference over other species at the scales.
The day started with all things in the right direction and continued that way all day, the winds were very low, it was not too cold, there was no rain forecast, the tide was right and the cod were showing in the channel.
The turnout was much better than expected with 50 anglers on 20+ boats attending which made for some great fishing and usual banter.
The fishing was excellent with 22 in size fish (4lbs +) being brought to the scales.
The winning fish made 16.5lb with the smallest of the 22 going 6lb, the 3 top prizes taking over £250 and a Free Turkey from the prize fund and pool money.
Just one of those days where everything works right for once and after all this year has thrown at us that is very welcome!
