Hey Guys I'm looking for some fishing wellies that will be suitable for all year use. Im currently looking at Skee-tex wellies with thermal inserts. I'm after something I can wear all year round rather than a set for summer and a set for winter. I'm not looking to pay a small fortune, just need something affordable and functional. What do you all use? Are there better options than Skee-tex? Thanks in advance 🙂

Why do you need special wellies?
I only use standard wellies bait pumping or if I’m fishing on the sand so during the winter not that often.
If I want wellies on to keep draught’s out or raining I’ll wear standard wellies and a 2nd pair of heavy socks!
Simples…

I hate having hot feet, would rather they were cold than hot.
I guess it depends on what you’re doing with them ie walking far, over rocks etc.
Have wondered about the thermal inserts and how comfy they’d be with any sort of longer walk?

Hey Mushty I should clarify I'm not looking for special wellies as such. I don't have any wellies at the moment but I would like a set that will be able to be used all year hence why I was thinking thermal insert style. I normally just wear trainers while fishing but have been caught out a couple of times returning fish and washing my hands lol

Completely agree Mr Fish generally I would much rather have chilly feet than baking feet but I have a lasting memory of Pike fishing with my Dad when I was about 14 and borrowing his wellies. It was -7 and the water was freezing in the rod eyes when reeling in. My feet were painfully cold to the point that it was actually warmer when I took the wellies off and just had socks on 🥶

Yep in those situations I’d prefer to just go home lol

Depending on where you fish, sometimes chest waders are useful as obviously you will not get wet feet but also they waterproof two thirds of your body so only a jacket is required.

I wear them for estuary fishing as it keeps the mud off too.

Not that I’d advise wearing them on shingle beaches or rocks but it’s another option

Summer just wear an old set of trainers, no prob's then getting them wet, just rinse with clean water when home save them rotting.

There is a pic of mate the other night on his web site standing in water with trainers on (even though you can not see as feet underwater) and in his boxers holding his catch;);)

Yeah its mainly shingle beaches that I've been fishing so far and not very long walks as my father in law has a bad knee and can't do long walks unfortunately

Trouble with trainers is once they're wet your feet are wet for the rest of the day as I found out a couple weeks ago. Not sure I should ask but why was your mate in his boxers holding his catch? 🤣

I’d probably just get a big standard pair of wellies then tbh.
Wear thicker socks to prevent chafing and add more if it’s cold lol
Edit: bog standard

Ah I see, we’ll get pair of wellies, get pair thick wool socks, change baits every 15 mins, catch lots of fish keep moving around and you’ll forget about your feet.

I think that sounds like a great idea Mushty especially the part about catching lots of fish 😁

Take a look at the woodland brand.
Best wellies I've ever had.

Can't do wellies any more unfortunately. Since I had my Hip replaced, I can't reach down to my foot with both hands to do shoelaces.

Clean forgot about that when I spotted a quality pair of Dunlop Actifort wellies on special offer. Got them home and can't get both hands down there to pull them on. Went a size bigger too, but no good. Lost the receipt so couldn't return them.
