As for rocks, been climbing around on them since about age 12.
The key I find is to as you say, never get complacent and always ensure you have two good anchor points before shifting your weight and committing to going up or down!
That way, should your moving foot slip, you’re not likely to go anywhere.
It’s why I refuse to jump gullies whereas some angling friends do. Some local marks can only be accessed by jumping a gully but there’s too much potential for disaster and a broken ankle, or worse.
I’m only too aware that when you do that, should the landing foot slip or go sideways, you’re gone.
The really lanky buggers can just step across ?
