Ok so the last time I went beach fishing was about the same time DB released Absolute beginners, and I'm guessing all the fish I used to catch have gone to that big chippy in the sky can I ask some really simple newbie questions, regarding the Brighton to Bournmouth coast.
Day time Night time or some time inbetween?
Rag, Lug, or some boilie thing smothered in synthetic squid juice ( to many Carp shows on TV?)
Hight tide, or Low Tide? or the bit in the middle?
Cast as far as you can or lob it out there?
When the wind is in the west the fishes bite the best etc...? relevent to sea fishing.
Big bait= big fish, that true from the shore?

Oh and most importantly the best chippy on that bit of coast? ( and fishmonger so I can buy a 10Lb Bass pretend I caught it and then SWMBO will encourage me to buy more gear)

cheers

Martin

Brighton or Bournemouth low up spring tide......... fresh black brighton, rag n lug Bournemouth, one short one long, 3 hook patty rigs or loop rigs thats about it.

You want a tide into darkness.

Same as it ever was Martin, and now is the time to make your debut (again) the next 8 weeks are the best weeks in the fishing calendar.

Dont like an Easterly still but if its below force 4 then dont worry.

If you see a big sea then go big baits.

Keep it simple.

Make sure the screws bolts on your tripod are not completely corroded and the contacts on your headtorch work.

Still like amnesia for hook lengths and kamasn b940s still work!.

I would ask around theres a few nice guys on here fish brighton...... maybe tag along?

Yeah what Pete said, and have a look at the reports on here. Its fairly easy to work out what tides have been working from them. The piers will likely give you more fish, with perhaps, less but bigger from the shore. It has been pretty "coddy" all along the coast with them being caught in the usual places and also elsewhere all along the coast. You will get more fish on smaller hooks, but again as Pete says, if its rough go big baits and bigger hooks.

Forget the gimmick juices additives and glugs . Fresh quality bait is a lot more important in the sea than in carp fishing. Probably find the tactics you used to use are still fine just a bit more searching around for the fish. Good luck

Dont think you will have much cash left to spend after buying a 10lb bass !!

Morning mate. I've kept a record of every fish I have ever caught, and kept a note of info such as tide times, wind direction, tide heights, moon phase, moon rise and set, bait, sunset time etc... It has been an absolute game changer for me!!! I started noticing things that the majority of people overlook.
Another helpful tip is to scan DORIS underwater seabed mapping for features. Find a baron beach with a feature along it and you'll increase your chances greatly in my opinion.
There's so much to learn but that's half of the fun.
There are some top anglers on here so if you have a question, don't ever hesitate to ask :)

Can everyone PM me their best Bass fishing mark, exact location please! ??? I promise not to tell anyone - unless they make me a serious cash offer of course!
Go to any beach in a 20mph SW wind and plonk a double squid bait in the gutter and you'll almost definitely find a donkey, eventually. It might take 3,4,5,6,7,8,9 sessions, but you'll find one.
My favourite bass spots are Durdle Door and Worbarrow Bay. Beaches in between kelp jungles and close to deep water. Bass come in and hoover up the pout.

So I can't help past Selsey, and don't have much to say about Southampton and Pompey marks. Night time now. Fish the last couple of hours of daylight to get your eye in and try for a plaice or bream (pop ups for bream). Then when it gets dark one rod in the gutter with a chunk of mackerel for bass, and one rod at distance with some size fours for sole (short snoods, small rig), or with 4/0s for cod (althgough they all seem in the 2-3lb class this year, so 4/0s might be a tad overgunned). Rag, lug or black for everything apart from the bass. Christchurch angling centre is the place to go at the Bournemouth end. Sandeel and squid will work for the rays in the spring. Southbourne is a great place to start, no need to cast more than sixty yards at high tide, less at low. There is a sandbank around that distance. Cast onto it and then wind in until you feel the weight drop into the channel before it. If you are a strong caster then cast over it. Nice sole, good bass after a blow, easy parking and some good chippies. I like westerlies, or northerlies for plaice and sole. The shingle bank is good for rays, bass, bream and the occasional cod. Fish it on the bank on the ebb during neaps, or towards the fort during the flood. Big bait big cod and big bass. Also big bait on small hooks for sole and plaice. Smaller bait for Bream.

Others will have more (and possibly different) to say.
