I think I was lucky as the fishmonger stand is shut due to COVID but they had whole packaged mackerel in the chilled fish section. To be honest I wouldn’t eat them myself but okay for catching dogfish and whiting :D

I’ve been desperate to get out for a Chuck or two but a combination of 60+hr weeks at work and lockdown has meant I’ve not been able to fish for weeks and weeks.

So the plan this weekend was a session behind the boats at Dungie. I wasn’t confident due to the calm weather and bright sunshine, but on the plus side it was a big tide.
Managed to dig some nice bait...
See I’m an idiot and just keep driving that 65 minutes to Dungeness as I love it there. Done terribly the last three sessions but I’m going back tomorrow and still have that surge of excited hope - keep an eye out for a catch report (or lack of one!).

Well done on the flounder! I live on an estuary with very similar mud so know exactly what you mean. Those little harbour rag are a cracking bait but a pain to dig.
How did the flounder taste? I’ve only eaten open sea flounder (which were delicious) but always read estuary fish will be ‘muddy’.
I was at Dungie yesterday, had hopes as big tides and recent stormy weather. However it was crap - tide wasn’t anywhere near as big as expected, it was bright sunshine and even though there was a swell and the water was coloured I caught nothing but tiny whiting.
