Hi all. New member with some advice needed here. Just moved to Pontypridd from the east coast and am looking at some piers to fish. Have only ever fished from a pier so I’m looking to get back to what I’m used to. Checked out Cardiff barrage but looks like a permit is needed and you need coarse gear? I have fished porthcawl a long time ago, is this still viable? Also heard penarth pier could be an option? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I'm just up the road from you in aberdare. I dont fish piers as there normally pretty busy venues.

Are you looking for easy to access venues? There's a few places I would suggest that would include monknash, white light, green light, knapp, foreshore, friars all pretty easy to access with a bit of a walk.. let me know if you need any help with them 👍🎣

Wow thank you very much. I’ve only ever pier fished as I don’t have gear for beach or any experience from the shore. Pier fishing has always been the easiest option as I can just turn up and do it without much forethought. I’d love to learn how to fish anywhere other than a pier 😅

With a bit of planning and knowledge of the venues there's a vast amount of places on the doorstep.

It's not much different to fishing from a pier as its mostly dependant on tides and weather conditions and the target species at the venue.

Depending on where it is it might be better fished over high/low water (3 hours before, 2 hours after). Anywhere from swansea- Bristol is generally the Bristol channel waters.

Take a look on YouTube as most of the places are on there, and if there's anywhere you like the look of send me a message and I'll happily give more info about it. All the best in the journey ahead

Welcome to the Madhouse HadMad! 👍👍

I only fish Piers and similar marks down here in South Devon due to mobility issues. Can't go cliff climbing or rock scrambling any more sadly.
Great of @welshtroutfisher to offer you some advice.
