Right I’d call myself an average angler but I’m no newbie either but in total my last 3 fishing seshes a total of 16 hrs of anglering have resulted in 1 mackerel and 1 small pout last night I blanked for the the first time in ages although I was fishing a comp and the entire sesh was on the ebb cock by the organisers I think although my mate did land a 6 lb + congar . I haven’t had 1 ray this year on my stretch I’m ussaly in double figures now but then no ones catching them plaice are very Scarce i did have a decent sesh early in the year on them but hardly any around now and the mackerel have just not appeard at all usally beaches are alive with them by now . Now I keep hearing about super trawlers but still there must be some about there’s also loads of nets in Lyme bay which I guess chould be the reason the rays are non existent cause I know there getting hammered by the commercials herd about one guy who had 800 plaice few months back then he was back out again putting his nets in same spot ??‍♀️We Also have a large pod of around 40 dolphins that seem to be doing the rounds atm but even with all this you’d think there whould something about it does worry me to think the hobbie I live for is becomeing a waste of time yes it’s great to be sat on the beach but I can do that any time I like I go fishing to catch fish not sit on the beach doing nowt .the only plausible reason I have herd for this lack of fish is the Elnineo weather effect the weathers all over the place atm and that chould be wots cause ing fishing to suck hopefully things will return to normal and late summer autumn will kick ass herd today few coddles showing up chisel so that’s a good sign I’m throwing myself into fishing the next few weeks with boat trips 24 hrs comps and Lind sessions on chisel all in the next few weeks I hope I’ll be able to put up some decent reports with any luck cause I haven’t done on in weeks anyhoo hope your all snagging summint or are you in the same boat as me let’s here yer thoughts ??

Its all over the place here, had a load of bass the other day but struggled to get macky for bait!!! Last time I went of the shore I had a poorcod rattle in six hours fishing, local boats catching alot of flatties. The mackerel don't seem to be in big shoals!!! Loads of jelly fish around. Big pelagic boats hoovering up tons and tons every trip doesn't help!!!

Been the same for me. This year has been slow to say the least. I've been beach fishing for 4yrs now and had very few blanks in that time, though this year Ive had more blanks than in the previous 4. No Ray's, no decent hounds, I seem to fish a venue one week and try somewhere else the following week and the previous venue then fishes well. I think I'm jinxed haha.

I mainly only fish at night and have been catching small stuff usually. It's good not to blank but like you I wonder.
From what I read, things seem to be sketchy all over. Maybe the weather......dunno I'm not experienced or qualified to say.
Keep at it would be my advice ?

I feel for you about the rays... 2 yrs ago on
chesil I could manage 2/6 rays a sess
Since they took the ban off undies every
ray was fair game .this year I’ve had one s/eye on usual marks the trouble is that it’s going to take time to build the stocks up
(If they stop taking them)
Keep going just adjust your tactics and goals and fish for what’s there !
I hoping for a bumper month in September and fish for flats and cod with hounds being a great bycatch
Don’t let the bast..ds beat you
Gray
Ps another unexpected catch from earlier this year

I would also add that rays are being caught on chesil, but not on general release by
awesome anglers who regularly catch
I think we all can up our game me included
and think of it as more of challenge
It’s fishing not catching after all
Just my thoughts....

Not much use for rod+line danglers but there was an article on the Scottish news last night that a shoal of sprats 2km long, couple of hundred metres wide by 30m deep had been discovered in the Firth of Clyde.

Yeah to be fair I’ve only ventured up chisel once this year and although it was all pout straps and dogs it was fish a cast which I enjoy but chisel will be main target from now on one cause it has died a death down here and two cause I love flats fishing on cogden and species fishing on ferrybrige hopefully get over the camp a couple of times aswell just sad to hear the gill net guys boasting about snagging 50 rays when you know most are going for pot bait ?

That’s the mad thing warbs there has been huge shoals of sprats sandeels and whitebait around for the last month but not much seems to be bothering them maybe it’s time to get into lrfing ?

Same in the bc, no cod, few dogfish, hound numbers and size down on last year, thornbacks shrinking in size and number. I've had one thornie, and I fish the channel at least twice a week. Normally on around 50 by this point. Even the sole seem to be scarce. Good year for bass though. I have to say, the small eyed Ray fishing on chesil this year has been superb, numbers of 8 to 11lb fish, with my biggest 11.4, my mates 12.7. The difference this year was they were really late, with numbers in June into July. Undulate numbers definitely down, they seem to be in decline again after the ban was lifted a few years back. No doubt fish numbers are declining, but the weather has played a part, everything seems later this year.

I hear what you're saying. However it's perfectly possible to catch decent mackerel, pollock, wrasse, mullet, bass and flatties on the really light stuff.

In the right place yes, if you’ve got a decent pier etc, but locally there’s not a lot for that, putting aside the fact I hate fishing in the middle of a crowd lol.
And the conditions allow it.

It’s just not for me. Spending 10 minutes playing a schoolie is just wasted fishing time to me.

Plus I’ve read too many fishing reports from excited lrfers talking about how they were ‘gloriously smashed up’ by a 2-3lb wrasse, which to me isn’t ethical or good for the fish.

I don’t want to go off on an anti lrf tangent as I know plenty of people do enjoy it, so as long as I don’t have to do it, that’s fine by me!

It’s been an odd season so far, I’ve only had a few mackies, no rays at all, (yet to be fair, I’ve not targeted them) only one dogfish, yet I’ve had at least one good eel a session, which is a good thing as their have been scarce, my bass mark is producing really well, having a great season with bass so far! Very few flatties though which surprises me. I’d have expected more.

yep it has been a strange year all round, the summer months are always a pain tho, year in year out, with grockles all over the beaches and fluff chukers going at it like an Olympic sport. Thats why im happy doing the species thing as it makes you try different styles of fishing, so when the beaches and rocks are not producing, there's spinning, luring and gud ole LRFing, over the last 3 trip had over 40 fish out for 6 hours fishing, yeah I know not every ones cup a tea, but neither is sitting on a beach watching motionless rods.
Guess the short supply of Mackerel in the sea is having a knock on effect up the food chain too, so that doesn't help at all.
Think we all should move to Kent and follow Storm trooper around he is hitting the fish good and proper :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: .
