Beach Lure Fishing kit

If I had to have 5 Lures in my box for Beach Lure fishing what should I be looking at?

They are nice rods, I bought one this year. I opted for the 12-46 but now wish I had gone for the 9-35 as mine is very stiff.

Obviously a lot depends on the depth and terrain you will be fishing. I’m no expert but I have lures that operate at different depths from say deep divers @4 - 5m right up to surface poppers. Have a read of a lure you like the look of and it should tell you the operating depth.
My favourite bass fishing is twitching a popper back on a calm day……the water can literally explode as a bass comes up from below and clears the water with the lure.
A mixture of hard lures, metals and soft wiggly ones needn’t cost a fortune and a lure box is about a tenner from memory. Unless you are rich don’t be sucked in to buying the ‘must have’ £25 lures. It might be wrong but there are plenty of copies. The purists will say they don’t swim properly …..I’m not clever enough to know.
I bought a Rapala X Rap for about £21, caught 2 nice bass and lost it next session on a snag!
My biggest Bass to date @ 4.5lb was caught on a £1.20 metal, the next cast caught a Mackeral!
From experience I change all the trebles to singles. It makes unhooking so much easier and better for the fish if going back. Once I started doing it I enjoyed my sessions so much more. I’ve had them caught on all the trebles which means almost certainly tearing the mouth…..also reduces greatly the chance of snagging…..
I get many of my lures from Predilures on E Bay ……..but I must warn you that once you start buying lures it can be addictive.
Again, I don’t know where you will fish, but I always take a landing net .

Most of my fishing will be along the groynes on the shingle and sand beaches along Hayling Island / Southsea / Eastney and perhaps a little to the East and West of those

Also I will look out sea walls / Concrete piers / Sewage outfalls

We are not blessed with Rocky beaches / outcrops where I am unless I take to The Isle of Wight

So pretty clean ground and hopefully not to snaggy unless I snag the wooden groynes

The where is all about walking and learning I guess

I already made a decision to replace any lures with singles ... what size do you normally fit them out with .... I guess with Bass even the little ones can take a bigger hook

I would get a few surface poppers,a few deep diving ones ,,some soft lures,the ones with curly tails,and if you can find them a couple of Dexter wedges,if you come across to the island let me know,I do most of my spinning between Ryde pier & seaview mate, hope this helps

Couple of surface lures/ The SG panic prey and surfwalkers are cheap enough and catch well, gunfish is excellent as are the patchinkos although some cheap copies work well. A couple of deeper divers. Sg sandeels or similar, Sunslicker Mishna are populat up here in a couple of sizes. And a few metals again the SG's are popular

It’s so much stiffer than my Diawa rods that are rated the same. Seems to be no standard. The Abu I have that is similar rating is as floppy as a floppy thing.

I generally replace with size 1 or slightly bigger 1/0 in line hooks. I have found that the bigger the hook the harder it is to get in the split ring as the hook eye is thicker. That could well be me being useless though!

Nice rod & reel Mesmo! I'm no expert but there's some good advice above.
The Savage Gear Seekers & slightly bigger Surf Seekers seem to have been doing well down here over the last couple of years, and they will catch Bass, and Pollack, Mackerel etc.
I prefer fishing with heavier lures, so have got an Abu Tormentor rod, 20 - 60Gms
The Savage Gear Panic prey is also a good surface lure - I caught my first Bass on one. And a Dexter wedge is a good old standby.
Good thing with the Savage Gear lures is that if you do lose one, they are not too expensive.

As @Goatfish said, don't get suckered in by the "you must have this lure" brigade. Purchasing a collection of some of them will empty your wallet quicker than a brick thrown off a skyscraper!
Good idea to change your hooks to singles, and a set of split ring pliers makes this easier. I've changed most of mine to singles, and usually use these Mustad in-line hooks in 1/0 or 2/0.

Whilst the likes of Veals & Glasgow Angling are great, I tend to buy most of my fishing bits from eBay - it's just so easy to find what you want, compare prices, and have it delivered (apart from the Mail strikes!). Tight lines!

Agreed.
Must admit I’ve never changed a split ring. Although I change my hooks when I buy a new lure, the task never comes easy to me. Even with pliers I always seem to need another hand or an extra finger. Shame I wasn’t born in Norfolk…….

new rods can be stiff , so take it out with something like a 30 gram lure and give it some welly you may find it softens it up a bit

I didn’t know that. I have wanged a 30 gram metal a fair way with it a few times.
