Thinking about it mate, if you mainly want the bass rod for float fishing it might be a bit overgunned. Will still be fine for the job but you might feel after a while that it’s a bit heavier than you want.
The flattie rod would probably be nearer the mark.
Mind you, if you also want the bass rod for flicking out a few feathers occasionally or some lighter ledgering once in a while, it’s definitely a better all rounder.
I’ve used lighter rods for float fishing but they can be a bit limited - sometimes you want something a bit longer and heavier to get the float out in the tide where the fish are.
Light is great fun if you’re playing around close in though.
As for reels, for float fishing I use what I think is about the 5000 size?
But if you wanted a bit of an all rounder for a bit of light beachcasting as well, it’s worth going a little bigger.
IMO I wouldn’t bother with braid for float fishing...
