Fancied another session on the plaice. Was seriously considering a drive to west chesil but with plenty of plaice being caught at Brighton/shoreham etc I decided on the shorter journey for me. Got to the beach with a good few hours before high tide. Set up and cast out, one rod a loop rig with size 1's and ghe other a bagnall bar rig with 1/0 hoping for a better size plaice. Both rods with rolling leads. Scanning the water and I notice a black flag some way out, then another. Standing up and looking left and right there was a string of nets from shoreham to Worthing, my heart sank and thought I'd be wasting my time. 2 hrs to high and good pull down on my loop rig and 36cm plaice comes up the shingle, was happy with that. It was slow going but ended up with 3 plaice with the 36cm being the biggest and 2 flounder. Been sea fishing just over 4yrs now and that's my first flounder so well chuffed with that. I fished 3 down and called it a day.
For some strange reason I had decided mid session at widewater to head to aldwick/bognor for a midnight Ray session. There had been a few caught on the last set of springs so I fancied a crack at it. Well to say I made a very bad choice would be an understatement. Got there in good time and set up, both rods on up and overs with squid, bluey, sandeel combo's. I fished until 3-30am when the cold finally got the better of me and the fact I'd only had a couple of whiting rattles on the rod tops. You can't catch all the time and I was happy enough with my day session at widewater, although I am still trying to figure out why I didn't just fish a night session there ?. Answers on a postcard if you know haha.
Tight lines.
