Splashdowns will keep the hook locked in if casting off the ground and release on impact with the water but some heavy gauge hooks don't fit them. Imps are vary good but can release if casting off the ground.

Splash downs are all good unless casting off sand sometimes sand gets into them and doesn’t release on impact with the water on otg casts splash downs are a better option in this scenario

I use imps for all my rigs regardless of hook sizes but then I swing the rig for all my casting regardless of distance I want to achieve. From size 6 hooks up to size 5-6/0. They negate the need for breakaway clipped leads. I still use cascade swivels for the hooks above if using multiple hook rigs. If you cast off the ground these aren’t really for you.

I've used these imps and the splashdown clips , for off the ground casting .
The imps work better with a softer rod tip helps keep tension on the line , as an example the daiwa supercast .
The softness in the tip seems to help prevent the line falling slack and unclipping .
The splashdown doesn't come unclipped but can jam up with sand .

Be careful buying knock off imps. Some of them open up as easily as paper clips. I only buy genuine breakaway.
Agree, especially from places like eBay.
It might say the items are in the UK, but often if you scroll down to the sellers location, they are in China.
