Came across this video on youtube, shocking scenes about 17mins, i thought most matches were catch/measure and release. These fucking clowns give us a bad name.
Made me fucking angry.

Just chill, it was good eating fish whiting and codling, sure they weren’t wasted. It was an Easington competition, I know little about NE fishing, but, a lot of them used to fish cliffs and rock marks where the height makes C&R nothing more than a tick box exercise. So long as the fish are eaten and not wasted, plus it isn’t a daily occurrence, I see no problem.

We need to remember that for our fun, we stick hooks into mainly defenceless fish and drag them from their natural environment! We may not like or agree with everything other anglers do, but, to cause unnecessary arguments between us will only allow antis to divide and conquer.

I know exactly what you mean,it made me angry as well.

To me nothing unusual about the match weigh in and same for many in the north east where fish taken to eat predominantly and many of the clubs some of the oldest with a long tradition of fishing the colliery beaches including then many miners and more of a tradition. Have found that folks from the colliery (that were) villages are salt of the earth with still many ardent anglers and a night out in easington village was to be recommended, but not for the snowflakes 😂
Used to fish the area myself and some great lads that share their knowledge freely, personally if above 2lbs I kill all my codling to eat for self or friends that enjoy free fresh fish.
Also worth noting some club members supply pensioners in the north east and anyone not understanding this really needs to understand what happens in other areas and why. Shame the flounder was not tapped properly which was careless .
Devil always in detail and context important, but if it makes individuals angry to kill and eat legally sized fish it’s their problem and each to there own.🤷🏽‍♂️

I get @wingnut55 reaction - there's something gluttonous about it BUT I also get @Flipper reaction - fishing is an inherently cruel activity and we need to keep things in perspective - for every good deed we as individuals do there are 100 chiefs around the corner doing the opposite.

I wouldn't do what they're doing in the video - I do my best to not take p1ss - but I'm under no illusion it makes a difference.

I know for a fact that many supply pensioners and friends with fresh fish which is something to be mindful of and freezers need to be used, can see nothing wrong with it in context providing legal, if such a problem simply ban fishing of cod for one and all if endangered species and also fishing if deemed cruel by the snowflakes, simples.🤷🏽‍♂️
Personally will continue to take my share as very much “feasts and famines”until government says otherwise which with current powers would not surprise, good job Nigel is an angler.😂👍

Ian.

You have led too sheltered a life then, this is the real world in roving matches

No doubt wingnut has good intentions.🤔

I prefer best specimen or best brace but I realise in some areas it might not be feasible.

At a club level our sea specimen comps are C&R now but again that’s a small group who know and trust each other, it wouldn’t work in open comps

Sorry for opening a can of worms here, obviously mixed opinions, that's life. Lets leave it at that.

Ian.

I personally think angling needs to look at minimising these sorts of events, regardless of whatever the commercials are doing, two wrongs don’t make a right.
But that said I appreciate the alternatives aren’t always feasible for every location.

So what was the wrong part and do you refer to the easington open club match and the behaviour of those that attended and the club ethics been mindful of previous posts and the fish are eaten and possibly enjoyed?

Would not be surprised if easington sac, and those that fish their competitions take exception to been called “fucking clowns” either.🤷🏽‍♂️🙄 edit, I am not a member of that fine club, unfortunately.
