I thought I'd be up and about early and drive to Weymouth, I was there before 7:30 and found free parking for the day.
First spot was the quay looking for gobies and other minis, I know that the elusive Leopard Spotted Goby lives nearby and I'd like to catch one..
The early morning sun was already warm and it was pleasant to be catching and watching the town wake up. There were Black and Rock Gobies, Tompots and Scorpion Fish but then the mini pollack turned up in force. Every drop another pollack. I decided to move down to towards the Stone Pier, the spot I thought I'd fish was passed by as there were people crabbing, so on to the end of the pier for some float fishing.
What a waste of time, as in the harbour the sea was infested with mini pollack, and to make things worse, mini pout at the bottom. I never thought to fish that place and not catch a wrasse. The water was crystal clear, enough to see fish on the bottom, I could see wrasse but the pout or pollack were on to any bait in seconds. I gave up on bottom fishing and stared at a floating float for hours never once seeing a sinking float.
Back to town later to get lunch, from Bennett's chippy, which turned out to be as disappointing as the fishing neither being as good as they used to be.
Another session there for minis but driven away by 'music' blaring across the harbour from one of the bars. I can't hold a note, I don't know why a similarly afflicted lass thought she could be an entertainer, although it's a fair bet she'll be prettier..
I then tried more float fishing on the end of the pier, there's shade from the lookout structure and a bit of breeze to lessen the heat.
The result, not a single bite, nor for anyone else.
