I thought I'd be up and about early and drive to Weymouth, I was there before 7:30 and found free parking for the day.

First spot was the quay looking for gobies and other minis, I know that the elusive Leopard Spotted Goby lives nearby and I'd like to catch one..

The early morning sun was already warm and it was pleasant to be catching and watching the town wake up. There were Black and Rock Gobies, Tompots and Scorpion Fish but then the mini pollack turned up in force. Every drop another pollack. I decided to move down to towards the Stone Pier, the spot I thought I'd fish was passed by as there were people crabbing, so on to the end of the pier for some float fishing.

What a waste of time, as in the harbour the sea was infested with mini pollack, and to make things worse, mini pout at the bottom. I never thought to fish that place and not catch a wrasse. The water was crystal clear, enough to see fish on the bottom, I could see wrasse but the pout or pollack were on to any bait in seconds. I gave up on bottom fishing and stared at a floating float for hours never once seeing a sinking float.

Back to town later to get lunch, from Bennett's chippy, which turned out to be as disappointing as the fishing neither being as good as they used to be.

Another session there for minis but driven away by 'music' blaring across the harbour from one of the bars. I can't hold a note, I don't know why a similarly afflicted lass thought she could be an entertainer, although it's a fair bet she'll be prettier..

I then tried more float fishing on the end of the pier, there's shade from the lookout structure and a bit of breeze to lessen the heat.
The result, not a single bite, nor for anyone else.

Perhaps a few weeks rest at home, then look at some places that you have either never been to or perhaps places that you haven't been to in a long time?
It works out well for me ☺️.
Happy Hunting.

Thanks, my concern is not that I'm not catching fish but for why this year is so strange. Not catching is part of fishing.

Years of experience fishing these places gives a basis of knowledge of what is caught and when, where and how, things are not normal this year for some reason.
I'd like to figure out why.

I can't afford to stay away this year, in other years I've taken advantage of cheap caravan park holidays at the quiet off season periods of spring and late autumn, with more people holidaying in UK these are no longer cheap, at least, not by my standard.

Well done on catching Cap, trouble is as your doing well in the species hunt and its getting a little harder, so every time we go out we want a new one, can have 30 fish plus in a session but no new species and you feel disappointed, oh the joys of species hunting   :D .
Still its a cracking place to fish. Ive had Leopards up on the stone pier before.

Yes,
We spoke about the astronomical increase in the cost of bed and breakfast guest houses in coastal areas. The increase in restaurants charging extra, I too am retired, so need to watch the pennies.
Your lucky to be able to get away ?
