As the fishing has been pretty slow my side of Lyme bay I thought id try the other side of the bay and after reading Capt'nhaddocks report, that spurred me on to drive East.
Some nice info from Capt and Rockmarks led me on to the East pier at West bay. Fishing was a bit slow to start but I moved around to where the rocks are and after a few drops found the hole the fish was in, lots a feisty bites before the first fish took the size 14 hook, a Shanny, then went on to add a Corkwing and Tompot, several more of the same species came out before I swapped to some sabikis for what I was really hoping to catch, first drop gave a a small Pollock but the next gave me 3 Sprats, great, first target achieved in the first hour.
Back to the dropshot and lots more of the fish mentioned above but with the addition of a few small Pouting, this carried on till dusk when I went back to the sabikis as a few mackerel had been caught opposite, but each drop gave me more and more Sprats, one lot wrecked the rig, so put some bigger ones on, just in time as the entrance to the harbour erupted as a shoal of Mackerel came in and hit the Sprats, first time this year ive seen so many Mackerel, a quick flick out and had four on, only to suddenly remember that this was on my spinning rod, so had slowly hand line them up, this lot had mangled this set as well so popped on a small metal lure, first flick with that gave me another chunky Mackerel.
While playing with the feathers I had a bottom rod out as well, this was just getting the attention of some Pouting that was just stripping the bait every so often, a quick rebait to half a sandeel, which then gave a cracking bite, that felt a lot better than a pout, a Scad, finally, been trying for a good while for one of these, second target achieved.
A few more casts on the bottom rod didn't see any interest so decided to pack it in and head home.
Managed over 65 fish, 8 species and 2 new ones for the hunts, a very nice, easy place to fish which ill definitely will be visiting again.

Great report Bob. I love West Bay. There are sometimes good shore rockling under your feet in those rocks and very occasional topknots caught in the rocks which point out to sea off the end of the arm if youre prepared to climb down (and be very careful)

I have seen a video clip of Devon Lerfer pulling out a rockling from them rocks, would love a Topnot but not to sure about clambering over them rocks there. West bay is a really nice place, like to investigate the harbour a bit more as saw several shoals of Mullet heading that way.

I was with him when he caught it. That's me netting it ?
Edit to add: we spent a couple of hours trying for those mullet on small metals once - loads of follows, no takes!

Good haul of fish ?

I didn't realise it was you there, I know you fish with him at times , well done on netting it:D:D

Its on the bucket list of fish to catch, one day:unsure::unsure:
I'd had one there before, and caught one immediately before he did. He actually caught one just before the one on the vid but dropped it. He needed one for his species list for the year so was pretty pleased when that one went in the net!

Very nice, ?
I dropped a Topknot last year, was gutted.... Mate then caught it few days later!.... Only one he's ever seen from the mark as well.... Only fitting he had it tbh being his home turf.

Maybe I'll get another chance one day ☹️?
