Another trip to West Bay, to fish the rising evening tide and on until darkness and beyond.
Surely the harbour should start to fish one day?

The one day wasn't yesterday, the fishing was dire.

I amused myself catching Sand Eels to be frozen down as bait for future trips, there were plenty of tiny Pollack and a few pin Whiting and a Coalfish, a target and species No.24, on the sabikis. Bottom fishing produced nothing much except small Pout and another Grey Gurnard, there was no sign of the easier targets, Flounder or Silver Eels, that at one time you could have caught easily.

It's common there for Mackerel to come into the harbour at high when it coincides with dropping light levels, a few arrived to pull the floats under and generally tease, just one was caught.

Others had been fishing there for hours with very little return, when I packed up there were a couple of anglers fishing from the end, I was told that they were catching only Pout.
A target species caught so not a wasted trip and I met up with a chap I hadn't seen for years, it could be that if I'd been chatting less and watching my float or rod tip more I'd have added to my catch but catching isn't the only reason for going fishing.
