Had a week in a caravan near the sea fished three times caught two thornbacks , three congers numerous dogfish best of all a nice cod of 4 and a half pounds ! Bit suprised as I thought they were more of a winter fish.
Not something ive ever caught in the Solent.
Baits were rag , mackerel and squid on the the last trip I tried frozen tiger prawn thats what the cod took. Dogfish seem to mostly leave it alone though.

Nice one James!

Codling are pretty much resident in the Bristol Channel but winter and the ‘spring run’ sees the better quality fish and numbers (in theory!)

I’ve had them throughout the year on ray baits, to a more modest size, usually 1-2lb.

I know you get migratory and non migratory cod

Great report, well done on the cod?
