So I am thinking to team up a Daiwa Exceler 2.44m 14-42g rod with a Daiwa Ninja 3000 class reel anybody got other suggestions for the same'ish money talking €100 for the rod and €50 for the reel . I have to say though that I am sort of roped into what is available here to be honest. Have I got the rod /reel cost the right way around for example? I can easily got up to a 4000 class reel if need be.
edit change my mind on the reel to a Legalis LT - 4000 DCXH holds a bit more line and is lighter

Where are you going to use this outfit and what are you fishing for? If it's bass in the UK the quality of the reel drag isn't so important as lightness and good line lay, but if you're going abroad for hard-fighting warm-water species such as bonefish, jacks, bonito etc it definitely is! PH

I am hoping to catch some sea bass with lures so I want to, as you say, fish with a lighter rod and reel now. My existing rod and reel are old and heavy at 850g the new combo is less than half that. I still think I will use the old gear for float fishing though where you don't cast every 30 seconds or so.

I have a couple of these.....
One light and one medium in the 2.7 to 3.0m sizes.
Super rod that packs away nni e and small...comes with a holder that takes the reel too. Ive used for a bit of fresh water fishing as well.
The two i have weigh 152 and 183 grams respectively without reel.
And the website is Germany based so should be no problem getting them to France.....they have a pretty good selection so worth taking a look at.
