I was desperate to get out last night but the tides and wind was awful, I spent most of the day deliberating the options. In the end, I plumped for the south Kent coast and got to my mark a little after 9pm. The wind was sufficiently off my back and although a few bigger rollers, the sea was largely calm.
My first 3 or 4 casts ended with whiting, although a better size of fish, they weren’t the target. The night went on, low water came and went and I was starting to think I’d had a wasted journey until about 1.5hrs after the tide turned. A more promising looking bite eventually saw my first ray of the evening, just a nipper but target acquired!
Less than 15 minutes later and no.2 came up, not much bigger than the 1st but it gave a good account of itself.
As I fished on, I had a massive double pull down. Excited at the prospect of a better fish I lifted in, I could feel a good resistance but it quickly let go and was lost. I was gutted as I was sure I would have hooked it, until I reeled in and saw why I didn’t.
There was a whiting on my hook that was crushed to pieces!
I stayed a little longer but with just more whiting for my troubles, I packed up around 2am for the drive home.
