After sorting out my freezer on the weekend, I found 4 rather sorry looking crab that had turned black. This was enough to tempt me into chasing these channel hounds that had started to show. The wind had died away nicely as I set up on a quiet reef, no anglers around me. Bait was thin strips, and I mean very thin! strips of crab. Last of the ebb produced dogfish, which didn't surprise me. Then half an hour into the flood a slightly better bite and I don't know who was more surprised when a huss around the 5-6lb mark popped up. Next cast similar bite and another huss around the same size. At this point things were getting hectic as I was being pushed back. This time the other rod drops slack, could it be the hound I was after!? No.... Another huss, but this time a much better fish, weighing in at just under 12lb. I finally managed to find a baby hound of 8-9lb, not worth the hassle of weighing just before I was pushed off. Strange session, rare to get a single huss, let alone 3. Very enjoyable session though and only 4 crab used!! ??

That sounds like an amazing session Squid. Quite often the unplanned last minute decisions turn out to be the best sessions but yours was brilliant. Well done, top dangling!

On a normal year we are returning 10-12lb fish without weighing them, mainly because if the fish are running you don't want to waste time on the smaller stamp of fish. Sadly last year sizes were well down and continued this year by the looks of it. Normally if you get a hound from the reefs, it would be unusual to see a sub 10lb fish. The smaller fish don't usually push beyond Porlock bossington and Minehead.

Nice fishing squiddy!

had hoped to get up there myself at some point but got health issues going on at the moment ?

Well done Col, nice huss ?

These small hounds are all over, I'm guessing the lack of rain was the cause?... Anyway there are some big girls out there (none for me mind), as a mate had a 19,18,17,16 and couple 14 in 3 trips ???
