South East The mackerel are here!

So after spending the day doing chores, wifey suggested heading down to the beach and try for a few mackerel for dinner. Not ever needing an excuse to hit the beach, I was in the car like a rat up a pump. Having fought through the traffic and squeezed into a parking space, we headed to the harbour arm where a few were already feathering. One or two were coming out, so I set up one rod for wifey with a string of tinsel and one for me. After a few casts, I managed a mackerel, and was quite enjoying the casting and retrieving, then wifey felt a sudden weight, she managed to crank in a full house on a set of 4 feathers! So 4:1 to her… I crack on with added concentration, to hear another Yelp as wifey hits another 2 mackerel… 6:1 to her… with that it went rather quiet, and with enough macks for tea, (plus two joeys unhooked in the water and released) we decided to head home. Lovely hour on the shore and one happy wifey.

I’m not sure I’ll ever live it down… especially as a week ago, she didn’t know how to cast! She had 2hrs on a beach casting a 3oz lead, then we went out for mackerel… ?

Local BBC forecast just said "there has been a noticable increase in sea temperatures over the last few days" so maybe that will make a difference. Need some Macker for the big pan! ??
