So I went down to the beach at low tide to pump some lug today, when the wife got home, she said she wanted to go down the beach with the dog, did I want to take my rods with me? Of course that was a yes! The wind was gusting on shore which wrote off the more open marks, so we headed to a rocky mark that is only accessible by walking from the car park for a mile then clambering down a steep hillside. The cliffs surrounding the mark shelters the wind somewhat, but there was still a strong side wind, but manageable. I set up two rods with two hook clipped down rigs to size 1 Aberdeen hooks, baited with freshly pumped lug and cast both into the rather rough sea. This mark is steeply shelving, so the waves broke close to the shore. 6oz grippers were needed to hold bottom. The wind made bite detection an issue, after an hour and a half the wife and I decided that it was a little exposed, watching heavy rain coming towards us across the channel, I decided to give it 10 more minutes then head off. As I packed up the first rod, contemplating the blank, the other rod tip sprang back as something dislodged the lead. Reeling in the nodding weight on the other end resulted in a blank saving dogfish! Blank saved and first fish after 4yrs away from sea fishing!
