Some friends I haven't fished with for ages had booked the pier for the evening so I went along for a yarn or two and to see if there was a Dogfish to be had after dark. The evening light seems to pick out the colours well, it's a nice time of day. There are Black Bream shoals that come and go, half an hour of no bites then a sudden flurry. They are a good species to target when having a chat with mates, none of that peering at the rod tip thinking 'was that a bite', just listen out for the rod being dragged down the railing, they are feisty fighters., a favourite fish to catch on light tackle diving deep and staying down like a mackerel.I had five or six to add to a friend's freezer. Later, after dark the small Congers came out to play, they are not my favourite fish; a few Pout too but no sign of a Dogfish or Ray.A couple of Pollack were caught on the float but no sign of Gar or Mackerel and no baitfish showing at all.
