Some friends I haven't fished with for ages had booked the pier for the evening so I went along for a yarn or two and to see if there was a Dogfish to be had after dark.

The evening light seems to pick out the colours well, it's a nice time of day.

There are Black Bream shoals that come and go, half an hour of no bites then a sudden flurry. They are a good species to target when having a chat with mates, none of that peering at the rod tip thinking 'was that a bite', just listen out for the rod being dragged down the railing, they are feisty fighters., a favourite fish to catch on light tackle diving deep and staying down like a mackerel.
I had five or six to add to a friend's freezer. Later, after dark the small Congers came out to play, they are not my favourite fish; a few Pout too but no sign of a Dogfish or Ray.
A couple of Pollack were caught on the float but no sign of Gar or Mackerel and no baitfish showing at all.

Last we spoke on Boscombe Pier, must be really nice to be able to go and book the Pier at Swanage, for your friends to ??.
Where is mortals are only allowed to go in the daytime.
I hope ? in the future years to be living closer to the coast and to be able to get to fish on a?? more regular basis, daily throughout the year in all seasons.
I'm obviously very envious of you.
Being able to travel from your location.

Members of any sea angling club can book Swanage pier, needs two club members minimum. You have to be there in normal opening times to collect the keys and sign the forms so is done there rather than on-line.

The pier used to be left unlocked at night, that worked well until some 'anglers' smeared the freshly painted shelter with mackerel blood and guts and some others thought that a disposable bbq on the wooden decking was a good idea.

There's always an arsehole to spoil it for everyone.

Great session by the sound of it ?
