A trip to Swanage to float fish, I'd like some Gar for bait as I've run out.
Nothing at all from float fishing, not for me nor anyone else I saw, but a strange thing was the abundance of a fish that is said to be rare, drop after drop caught a Baillon's Wrasse, I had eight or nine during the day and not just from one spot.
The orange spots are indicative of the Baillon's Wrasse, they also have the little serrations on the gill cover like the Corkwing.
Bottom fishing with ragworm got Wrasse of three kinds, sizeable Black Bream, a sizeable Plaice and some little Bass.
A word of warning if you are thinking of rushing there to catch a Baillon's for your species hunt, it could be that they are all lining up like swallows do before they all bugger off somewhere else, they might have gone by the time you get there.
