When I use to fish for bass back home I used a 10ft 3lb carp rod for my shore lure fishing. I could use it on the beach fishing in a wave or off rocks when the sea was a bit on the rough side. I found that I could get my lure cast a bit further out with it over a 9 ft lure rod. Does anybody here use a carp rod for lure fishing ? I am tempted to get another because as well as lure fishing I think they make a decent ledgering rod too again fishing out into the surf.
edit
I used it to cast a eddystone eel as well using a controller float you could get a decent distance on the cast if you used a thirty gram float.

I have a 2.75lb 10ft carp rod that has been in the shed for ages, will give it an outing when things allow.

That sound like Torness tactics.

I've got something similar tucked away, I've never used it. Must dig it out and check the weight rating, but I've never understood these Carp & fresh water ratings compared to the casting weights of salt water spinning rods. I remember it is quite light, & thin at the tip!

Tactics still work but bombardas from the bombarda shop in Denmark are much more efficient. PH
I've watched a couple of videos on using Bombarda floats by Rob, the Cornish shore & kayak fisherman. I thought about investing in a couple, so a link would be appreciated please PH.

I made one, will put a photo up tomorow if I get chance! Works well!

Nowadays I'd rather use the smallest sg eel or half a larger one on a bigger head. It's not often they get refused, especially at night unless the fish are taking much bigger prey l

I bought some Chinese knock off black minnows which give the casting weight but the action of the Eddystone still is as good if not better and the heavy float just gets it out there. Be interesting to see how these black minnow fish the good thing is they are sort of weedless so snagging should not be a problem if the bottom is the place to go.

I use a (not 100% sure as it is at caravan) 9ft Penn Bass Spin rod.

Does as an all rounder as well ok for fishing with running ledger where i fish.

I'd pick a correctly weighted lure rod over a carp rod every time.
Yes me too.

Never course fished but do own a carp rod which i bought as it was three piece and would fit across parcel shelf on car.
I would fit reel and thread line through and fit trace, and then take apart and put on shelf, only then takes 1 minute to set up and put bait on and fishing straight away.
The rod is ok for beach fishing but would not use for lures.

They do make decent enough bait rods if the conditions allow, no surprises really as that is what the are made for albeit in fresh water. They just have not got the action or finesse for most lure fishing..

The one i got is ok for up to 3-4oz weights nothing heavier .

The INNO ones are brilliant: cast well, hardly ever tangle and are available in different weights and densities from floating to fast sinking. I use them with 130mm Red Gill Rascals and a 6ft fluoro trace on a 10ft rod.
The shop is in Denmark but postage is no problem and the owner is very obliging. PH

Thanks Graham - I'll take a look. ??
