Like @Mr Fish I had a chat with @Tatunka joe and he mentioned a mark that I might be in with a chance of a cod or codling, ( hope he dont start charging for this info service!! ) but said it was best over low. Low was just past midday, after bit of a rush getting there, I hit the beach just as the tide turned, got the rods in the water and then a quick pic of the very quiet beach. Now I knew it wasn't best conditions, very light breeze, calm sea, but it was suppose to be a grey cloudy day, well that was till I got there and the bloody sun came out and shone like it had never shone before!, it was like a summers day fishing, not great Cod weather.

I brought the first casts in and a small Whiting had hung himself on the 1/0 hook, good start, not a blank session, lets hope this a sign of a busy day, nope! first cast fish syndrome clicked in and didnt get a bite for the next 3 hours!!. Baits was being chewed but nothing was registering on the rods'
Just as dusk came I got a small rattle and another tiny Whiting came in. wahoo!! Tat was on the phone saying wait till it was dark and it should kick off, which it slowly did with a few slightly better fish coming up the shingle.
When it was fully dark, I did get a cracking bite and this finally had a bit of weight behind it, stayed heavyish on the way in, hoping it was a unicorn as it came through the surf, bugger not a cod but a whopper of a Whiting, a tap on the nut, a pic, a weigh and in the bag for tea.

Sorry Mr fish, I top trumped your pair of nice fish with a 1.13lb one, was well happy with him. Next cast gave another good bite and again was heavyish on the way in but this time it felt like a few nice head shakes, could it be , could it be, no it couldn't, a double shot of Pouting, both around 3/4lb, buggers.
After this excitement:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: it was back to smaller fish and a small doggy thrown in to the mix as well, he was the only fish to try the big bait that I kept putting out.
Got to high tide, and the bites and fish had eased off a lot, plus after 6 and a bit hours I was getting knackered and knew there was the hill back to carpark to attempt, so packed it in and head back up the hill. Till net time.

Nice fishing!!! Hopefully be some whiting here when this blow dies off, maybe a coalie or two???

The pic to me shows low tide.
Reading other reports of landing fish at high tide (and roughish weather) or is that steep shingle only the problem?

What does it fish like at low and either side of low making it a bit sfer for less experienced Chesil anglers?

Yep its at low, tat said its a good venue to fish it over low, maybe better when its dark either side of it.
Its not a steep section at all of chesil, i would imagine that in rougher conditions the surf would run up the beach pretty quick. Its a easy spot to walk to as not a steep bank to climb. As for landing a fish ,that was easy as didnt have any thing big to worry about ?, but it a be like any beach with a surge , just be patient and find a wave to ride it in on.

Another nice report Bob - nice sized tasty Whiting! Well done! ??
