Hey,

Off to Padstow soon for a break away. Taking my gear with me. Any particular areas I should give a thrashing? Fished harlyn a couple times in the past but want to explore the other stretches out. Any advice would be amazing. Also if you lot know of any rock pools I can forage that would be incredible as Google/maps isn't revealing much for me.

Tight lines all

Haven't fished up around Trevose Head yet, but I would have thought the stretch between Harlyn and Trevone Bay would offer some rock pools (inc "natural sea pool" Trevone side of Newtrain Bay), or, on the other side of the Head, down around Chair Cove/Treyarnon perhaps.

Just back from Padstow we go every year. My favourite spot is Harlyn Bay and this time last week I caught my first pollack whilst light lure fishing.

Park in the grassy hill car park and walk up the top of the cliff. At the first bench you’ll see an easy way down to the rocks (go two hours before and two after low).

You’ll see an awesome rock pool that is always full of resident shanny, blennies etc plus trapped juvenile mullet, bass. You can use tiny lures or winkles.

You can also walk to the waters edge and cast amongst the rocks.

Also, follow the coast path walking back towards to Padstow and there is even better rock pools and open water. You can walk along a concrete outlet to the waters edge and I think that’s very bassy. Only fished once, blanked but did have a very big bass follow my lure in.

I'm aware Trevose Head is deemed good for Pollock, but I'm slightly surprised to see that out-of-season wee little thing from your recent trip !! More to the point though, @Jimmyfloydreturns, are your suggested directions from Padstow or from Harlyn ? I'm thinking you are starting out from Padstow, but not entirely sure !

Also to say @azzerooo; if you haven't checked out the Padstow Lobster Hatchery before while on holiday please do ! Frankly, it's not the absolute best value-for-money holiday event/venue in Cornwall as it won't fill-out much of your time, but I personally find the whole thing fascinating (but then I just like aquariums) and they are doing great work helping to keep local lobster stocks up which, of course, helps local lobster-fishers maintain a living and supports a more traditional Cornish economy (before/beyond tourism). Thanks

Why just lobsters ?! - might be a question for next time I visit and, of course, a previous visit to the hatchery is not a reason to not visit again ! ;) )

From Harlyn car park.

Trevose head is great but my wife has banned me going by myself. The rocks can be treacherous and there is no phone signal down there.

I wasn't aware about the poor phone signal. Worth-while to note !!
