High tide was about 20:30 and of a mediumish size. Wind was quite strong from SSE. I fished about opposite the Kursal.

I fished a couple of rods with squid and black lug baits pennelled on 6/0s. I was pretty quiet compared to previous sessions with the odd rattle that didn't turn into anything. Before now this year I'd have expected one or more whiting impaled on the pennel but that baits were just coming back tattered with no fish.

At about 22:15 I put out a 2 size 2 flapper to see what was biting and it turned out to be small whiting so strictly speaking I didn't blank. I had another and packed up.

Maybe it was the wind in the eastern half of the compass or maybe the whiting are thinning out but it was definitely different to how the last couple of months have been.

6/0 your hopeful! Thought they removed all the Gasworks Jetty?? myself would either go down right side of pier or Coastguards end and down side of barge pier has lots of worm and crab! Was thinking of trundling along there myself

Yeah I was optimistic but they were Cox and Rawle Uptides and there wasn't a much bigger gape than Sakuma Mantis 4/0 that had failed to deter the whiting a month ago.

I'm not going to mention the C-word but I did have them in mind having read of some coming out of the river recently, albeit a bit upstream. But I also wanted to deter the small whiting so it was a success in that I didn't hook any on that rig. And yes, there's not much chance of catching them around here but there's even less chance from my lounge. In it to win it and all that.

I'd thought about the side of the pier but my hooks and leads had been catching on the sea wall last time I was there and went through the scenario of hooking something decent and losing it on the wall so opted for the sand.

Maybe I'll give it another go over the next week or two if I can get out for a suitable tide. This side of New Year seems the best chance of something decent acting here until April so I want to get at least one more session in.

Good tide down there is fishable depth late afternoon guess around 19-20.00 high tide
