Went through my fishing gear, and came up with a couple of 8ft 20-80gm rods, new spinning reels & line (mono), weights from 1/2oz to 2oz, snap swivels, luminus beads. various hooks from size 6 to 1/0 baitholder hooks+ some sadiki and mackerel feathers (max trace of 3) to get them started.
That's all folks except son and daughter in law will be coming as well.

Good to see the youngsters getting involved mate, hope they get the bug and love our hobby... 🎣 🎣

Its a slippery slope Beach.

My two grandsons live in Germany, 6 and 10 years old, they are fishing mad,and very lucky as their other grandad has a lodge on a lake in Feldburg. It has a water frontage and private landing stage . He kept all his fishing gear in the loft in the lodge, it was fairly old and in poor nick really . When we last visited I had a sort through it and most went in the bin.
I started to sort through my mountain of gear and slowly it is leaving the UK and going to a new home. Every time they visit here, they take a few rods and reels back with them, every time we go there its the same.
I keep a couple of rods and reels here for them, both fresh and salwater as they like flatty bashing as well as chucking lures around and catching nothing . Back in Germany they catch quite a lot of Pike and Perch on lures and the odd bream on bait , so my donated gear is back in use.

As it is quite deep there, their father who is a professional diver taught them both to swim at about the same time as they could walk, they are both like fish in the water and think nothing of diving off the landing stage at the drop of the hat, and regularly splosh back inside the lodge with their clothes soaking wet, having bet each other they could not find a red painted heavy marker their dad made that they chuck in to recover , a bit like diving for a brick as we do here for swimming proficiency badges .

Its good to see kids doing something else other than staring at a screen all day . I do feel though that they are a bit spoilt having that on their grandads doorstep.

Depends how they are brought up, as they say learn the basics and the rest will come easy. I remember taking my other two grandkids to a lake in Shropshire, they were catching small roach & perch on sweetcorn & maggots. They enjoyed putting them back to grow.
The other two will be joining me for some tiddler bashing in the sea. (y)
