I can never sleep the night before I fish Chesil due to excitement.
Yesterday the fishing was shit! ( for me anyway !) I don't know whether anyone else at Cogden caught as I was a long way from anyone. Tides weren't perfect but they were building and it was the only day I could go anyway. Tried everything - loop rigs at distance, small hooks, other rod larger bait incase a smoothie or two was about. Baits were black lug, rag, sandeel, squid and prawn.
All were getting stripped within 10 minutes by pin whiting, not crabs.
Caught a few of those but nothing even indicated on the rod tips.
Got desperate to avoid a blank so chucked out a pelagic pop-up rig during the slack and managed to snare a scad.
About lunchtime the sea infront was filled with dolphins, moving in small pods from west to east and only about 50-100 yds out. This carried on for half an hour or so and I must have counted at least 50.
Fished till 8pm when a strap decided it was time to make me go home !
The long walk back to the car park but I was treated to a most spectacular sunset. Pic quality not great as it was snapped with my moble
