Just arrived back from this comp spent there d down there great comp to fish . We arrived Friday around 10.30 set up camp then went out for a play about I was in my mates predator 165 lovely fast boat first job was to find fresh bait for the next two days bit of spuddleing about but finally found loads of macs strings of 6 they feeding hard on the bottem arfter we had enough we shot out past the headland to try for launce I only found joey macs but me nabbed 3 huge launce had a bit a play with the slow jigs on a reef I snagged a cracking red gurnard around 1 lb 3
Then had a few drifts over some wreaks mate had a nice fat bass didn’t want to blow the macs on rating as that will be the next two days targets went and had a chat with some other club members two of were catching a small eye a drop 7 in 20 mins inc two 10 lbers looked promising . Upped engines and went back in back to the camp site for bbqs and zider talked some shit went to bed and froze our tits off god it was cold ? the next day we went down and signed on for the comp I then made my way to jump on another pair of mates boat a stunning pilot house 21 which they steamed down from Lyme the day before amazing boat built for fishing with a top speed of 35 knots we shot out to our chosen mark arfter checking navionics we found a cracking little self that looked like it chould be promising . The half 9 start time arrived and we got baits in the water arfter half an hr me mate had a decent bite which resulted in a nice 7 lb thorn back the only one we saw all weekend then for the next 3 hrs we were banging out rays like they were going out of fashion endless blondes and smalleye took a like to our fresh Mac baits tireing but fun inter spread with s few decent tubs macs and dogs my mate finally found a decent ray in the shape of a 11lb 1/ oz small eye great fir the comp as it was a specimen but try as we might we chouldnt find anything to go with it . The tide died and with the strong northly winds it made it impossible to get a bait trotted away down tide so we upped anchor and had a drift for plaice we managed one bit of no size and drifting for plaice is boring as feck if not on the feed so we headed out to a deep water reef mark to find some wrasse agin not happening 5.30 deadline arrived and we headed in back to camp for more zider bbq and shit talking another freezing cold night and we were up early for the 8.30 start time this time we headed out and anchored off some rough ground in search of Huss and wrasse I was straight in with a dog then conger then a double shot of congas and a dog hmm a quick move found are target of Huss but to no size few more small Huss then I picked up a poor cod on my flyer which become bait as soon as it hit bottom something smashed it but didn’t hook up . We then pooped back inshore for wrasse finally found a beut of a Ballen on the slow just jig but to small for comp then lost my slow jig ???tried filling for 2 0 mins for pollock none showed so shot right out in 180 ft of water arfter rays but got pesterd with spurs 1 of 4 species you can’t weigh in also arfter release ing them I relived they chould have gone towards my species hunt and got me to my 30 different species of the year doh ?‍♂️?‍♂️?‍♂️. Then shit back on the ray mark from day before but again chould set are lines small tide strong Northenlys just messy so popped in for another crack at the plaice but none showed we ended round the back of wolf rock but didn’t get a thing and time was nearly up so shot off back to port . News was everyone struggled today but my club still had 5 pepole in the top ten not bad for a small club not by the sea great weekend loads of fish banter and bad food can’t wait for next year altho has anyone got one of those huge camper vans I can borrow ???????1398CB7A-E121-4F6E-83FA-AC5FF9294C25.jpegA2C69AFA-6C69-4972-B65B-98B02C4CF2C0.jpeg5F487F71-A1C5-4BA2-8647-D677FF635F87.jpeg13AF3815-5DA7-4063-B550-28ACA8775696.jpeg94C00123-68C7-41E8-B4A6-EFAB2852DA06.jpegB234C3B5-6B6C-4378-84EF-9C6EC0EB23F9.jpegBD12C418-15CE-41EA-AF38-86CDDA4BFE80.jpegA84A4584-FCB8-473B-B7CB-9F3E42CB4F2E.jpeg69989057-A0C7-4114-B5F6-2570B86ED7CB.jpegD218A501-50E3-43BD-A808-3FDFC0498F7F.jpeg

Another Brilliant report & great photos Tats! Lovely Red Gurnard too. Well done. ????

Nice arse! Oh and some good fish too!

Looks busy even if you didn’t quite hit the specimens you wanted.

Should have given me a call if you were cold… ?
