As some of you probably noticed, I posted yesterday about deeply gashing my finger on a tin. It wasn’t that long but it felt feckin deep.
However the local minor injuries unit weren’t too worried so suitably plastered up I headed up channel following a much appreciated bit of advice from Si the fishing machine.

At the mark I added a bit of extra protection…

Targets for the night were sole but it was possible a hound or two might show up as well.

So I deployed crab on a pennell rig and a two hook flapper with ragworm for Mr Sole.

Well, it was feckin slow. First cast produced a snotty eel that turned my sole rig into a ball of snot. It looked a lost cause but while the spare rig was fishing I fiddled with it and eventually teased it back into shape.
Good old Amnesia!

After that, absolutely nothing for ages, no bites, nowt.
At high tide I swapped crab and squid baits on one rod for ragworm and tried to focus on the sole.
I had a slow run, very slow, and it didn’t look like a hound. Maybe sole? I left it ages then carefully brought in something… that got snagged up close in and I couldn’t shift it. Argh! Too careful!
I left it in the rest and tried 10 minutes later and the gear came back fine, but no fish attached ?
The line was very tangled so might have been an eel, but I guess any fish snagged would tangle the trace.

Then… ZZZzzzzzzx!!! The other rod was off. That ain’t no sole!
Sure enough I steered in a lively hound of 8lb 5 on the sole rig.
Sorry but the picture of that fish is truly shocking. I’d set up a remote phone tripod and switch but still couldn’t get it to take a decent picture.

So, back out with crab on one, persisting with rag on the other.
It wasn’t long before the sole rig shot off again and this time I steered the first double of the night to shore, a 10lb 3 hound.
Still not a brilliant pic but clear at least.

Then I had a massive run on the crab, that I missed ?
What followed was a frantic 45 minutes. Another run on the crab resulted in a 10lb 4 hound, and I was rushing around, throwing on worms, chopping crab, lashing crab, changing knackered rigs and sweating like a bastard!

It culminated with the best fish of the night, this beauty, again on a sole rig and 20lb trace ?

After subtracting the weight sling I made it 13lb 14.
Sorry about the not great fish handling, I was trying to support the hound and take the picture and press the remote switch and it was all a bit of a faff. I need to do better with that.
Oh, and the finger dressing got ripped off somewhere among dealing with three double hounds and it was pudding blood again.

As I dried my dripping finger and added more plasters and tape, I surveyed the carnage.
Two beach casters dumped on the ground as I dealt with fish, plus a pile of chewed up rigs under the tripod and me sweating like a pig.
I had one more cast but not a touch, I think the tide had dropped a bit too much.

So I gathered up the shattered bits of my tackle and headed back to the car, absolutely knackered!

How does Si do it every other day?

Great stuff, a shame the sole didn't show but a cracking PB. Judging by your face that first bootlace really pissed you off

Haha yea, I’m gonna need anger management for that ???

Tbh if I smile I look speshull (?) and I was frowning a bit anyway as trying to make the remote switch work and get a usable picture.

Was in a comp and needed pictures for weighing in.

Brilliant report Tony, great photos, even if you do look a bit like a Rabbit in the headlights in some of 'em! ?? Well done on the Hounds and I hope the Finger soon starts to heal. ??

Good points?

In the competition
Ah gotcha. It’s not announced until 8 but yea I’d get points for winning and about £30 or something.
Since I’ve weighed in bugger all this year I don’t think I’ll be tearing up the league ?
