I had a couple of hours this afternoon looking for species on Lake Pier.

Not a very productive session, the ebb tide was dragging weed through and the crabs were stripping baits quickly.
Small hooks and salted ragworm resulted in a couple of Common Blenny or Shanny.

When the water warms up the fishing will be better here, it can be a fish a drop in summer.

looks a nice place to spend a few hours well done

Livebait?

No, I can't bring myself to use blennies or gobies, they seem to have character.
A pout, yes, and I'm happy to use live sand eel, sardines or herring as mackerel bait, sand smelt for bass or a whiting for conger or cod..
Not these little characters though.

Does look a nice place to have a go at the minis ,well done on the fish you had.

It can be a good spot for mullet and bass in the warmer months, flounder in winter. Bream, black and gilt head, and mackerel come this far into the harbour.
Easy cheap parking and you can dig ragworm, but, there's always a but, when it warms up there will loads of kids jumping off the end, kayaks paddling through lines etc.

The lads on the pier thought they'd share their crap rap music with me otherwise I might have stayed a bit until low when the weed would have eased off..

It was sounding like a fishing mecca till you mentioned the jumpers, kayakers and rest, gone to a bingo mecca now, still I bet out a idiot season its nice to fish there, that's a very good selection of fish it can hold. Ive always fancied having a bash Poole way, will have to talk the missus into a day out.

There's a holiday camp just up the road/beach, make a weekend of it and fish Swanage or other Poole venues as well

I used to fish there a fair bit, it was always good for a few bites, although as already mentioned, it can be rather busy in the summer! I used to head over the hill to the lake to fish for carp once upon a time. I studied nursing in Poole, loved the place.

Well done, thanks for the report ?

Good effort Cap'n ? .
Do you know if flounders are turning up yet at evening hill or in the harbour?
