Had a few days lined up with some friends incl a trip on Flamer - (Sussex Sea Charters - Warren) - on Thursday and on mine Friday & Saturday. Warren & I met for a pint Wednesday late afternoon to discuss the next day ( I used to skipper Flamer) & forecast was borderline with gusts of 24mph but NWN so some land protection with heavy rain showers. We decided to go for it and so next day our crew of 8 set off out of Itchenor, Chichester harbour towards Selsey and the Boulder Bank to catch the start of the flood for Bream. Big swell but got there & all looked good with 2 early bass and a bream on first but it was really patchy with only small stuff. Water was not very clear.Moved in closer to Selsey for some hounds/ rays / tope but only got dogs and congers amongst heavy rain showers. Not very good & tide raging, so we decided to go to the "bream spot" closer inshore where another charter had blanked on the bream on the ebb. Into them straight away - all keepable size. Amongst a few dogs we had 42 bream with 35 kept & shared between the skipper & crew. Best of all the wind dropped a bit and the sun came out. A great day from what looked like a wet, wind and poor catch day.
Friday & Saturday were right off due to the b....y winds. Had to get home for Sunday - weather perfect!! Grrrr!
