A bit of a late report but digging footings and filling them with concrete has kept me busy, then too dumper trucked to type.
I fished Totland from the sea wall for the last hour of the flood onTuesday evening.
Fishing has been pretty slow here on the IOW for me, and most everybody else it seems, so it was nice to catch a reasonable school bass, the first fish since 19th July.
Then bang on high water there were a few gentle taps followed by a pull down, which stayed down.........Ray?
I lifted into it and it felt like a good fish, and it was pulling back. Slowly slowly I thought and carefully retrieved a bit of line whilst dropping the rod and lifting into it again.
Then it got a bit agitated and as luck would have it took off in the direction of the steps where I'd be able to lift it out.
By now I'd got a bit of an audience so I wanted to be really careful rather than be embarrassed by dropping it.
Eventually I got a view of it and nearly wet myself, definitely a personal best Undulate Ray.
At the steps I got hold of the line and laid my rod on the walkway and walked down the few steps where I was able to get a grip on it, absolute beauty.
I didn't weigh it but it felt like 10. Whatever it weighed I am still grinning.
Both fish caught on size 3/0 Chinu hooks baited with a single party squid at about 50 yards.
