Lockdown and work have got in the way of sea fishing since xmas and carp and trout can only fill the void for so long. To be fair reports have been suggesting the sea fishing has been a little quiet and calls to tackle shops have not yielded much encouragement either. However, the need for a sea fix overwhelmed all other considerations and we went for it.
Having secured the usual class rag from SW Seabaits, I felt our best bet was to hope the wrasse had woken up hungry from the long winter. We arrived at low water after yet another cold night and yet more cold NE winds gusting far more than we would have liked. 2 hours in and a small ballan and a corkwing were all we had caught, I was beginning to think it wasn’t our day, but, it was so lovely to be at the coast I didn't care.
Once the tide hit the halfway mark we had some bigger fish come on the feed and we caught well up until the slack of high tide. Nothing huge, 1/2lb to maybe pushing 3lb, but, awesome fun on light gear. Not sure if it was the cold or the east wind but, the fish were not committing themselves to the bait, so frustratingly lots of missed bites, but, almost all fish lip hooked which was the positive.
Good to get out and blow some cobwebs, soon be lure time for bass and bottom fishing for gilts!
