Swanage Pier and quay.
My favourite place. The atmosphere and views there are the best. You can usually find shelter from the wind. When sat sheltering, the pier sways a bit, and has its own character. The people running it day to day are volunteers and are a cheery lot.

Cold and windy, but sunny start. First 20 mins were good. Then @cap'nhaddock got there! Last 20 mins before the pier shut were good. The bit in the middle was deathly quiet fish wise, but good fun. Left the pier and fished the quay for an hour to let the traffic ease.

New fish caught. Long spined sea scorpion, see following beautifully coloured and marked, baillons wrasse, ballan wrasse. Haddock also added to his tally. He is learning lots under my tuition!!!

That's 10 species so far. Also caught a few Pollack. Not the usual 50 to 100 fish.

As you say, I'm coming on well under your guidance.

A high point you've not mentioned was us giving a newcomer to fishing the pier some advice and a bit of mackerel as bait as the tackle shop where he'd hoped to buy some was shut.; later he appeared to show us the photo of the gar he'd caught, his first ever.
It's nice when a plan comes together.
My float fished bait, set to catch the gar I'd reasoned were about was untouched all day.

I always forget something. Yes that was a high point, very rewarding that he did well. My float set up also went unanswered.

Some brightly coloured fish there!

My favourite. So much character.

Yeah, in real life it was more goldy than yellow.

You've got to love a Scorpion fish, I always think they look like they belong in a sci-fi movie.
Agree. Heard of them being kept in aquariums. Bet they sit side ways to the glass and keep that beady eye on you!

Nice one, great pics(y)(y)
Thanks.

Great fishing. How do you tell the difference between a ballions and a corkwing. I think I've caught wrasse like that at weymouth and Brixham but thought they were just lightly coloured corkwing, oops.
