Went for a couple of hours this morning over Mudeford Quay, using a rainbow coloured black minnow in the Run hoping for a bass. Timing was bad as I arrived just as the tide started going out, dragging all the weed out of the harbour. Could see a bloke on the Hengistbury side waist deep in the water chucking a spinner about and catching quite a lot of small bass, so I wondered down to Avon Beach and waded out to about 30 meters short of the boat channel, standing in about 2ft of water. There were fish rising all over the shop, and some jumping well out of the water which I assume were Sea Trout (must go and buy a selection of Mepps for next time). Switched from black minnow to a blue/silver Dexter wedge and started getting hit by small bass straight away, but not connecting, weed was still a bit of a problem but not quite as bad. Then got hit hard by something which connected and took off like a train. After half a dozen or so strong runs towards the channel, managed to beach it. A plump Mullet, best part of 6lb, a first for me so well chuffed. Fished on for another 20 mins resulting in 1 small bass then called it a day as my arms were burning! Will definitely be wading out to this spot again, and will also take my fly rod with me next time!IMG_20210720_105634.jpgIMG_20210720_105643.jpgIMG_20210720_115645__02.jpg

When I was there last Thursday, I was going to start fishing ? at 3pm, but having driven along the coast, all I saw was traffic lights and hollibobbies blocking the roads, walking around beaches or castles by yourself,is no fun.
I started fishing ? earlier, I too saw a blessed ke wading out into the estuary, but due to the amount of boats in and out, he was there chucking in a lure for hours.
The only thing I saw caught, was by the resident SEAL, skoolies and lots of them.
I had a crab ? hooked, then a small Conger eel hate them, madea bloody mess.
Then a nice bass.

Thanks all, will definitely be hitting that spot more often, water was surprisingly warm as well ?

Certainly did, seemed to get stronger with each run as well as I got it into shallower water. Can see why some consider them UK equivalent of Bonefish. Last thing I expected on a Dexter wedge though, I thought rag baited Mepps were the go to for mullet? But that's 10 different species I've had fall to a Dexter off local marks now, although half of them only the once
Very nice, well done, cracking fish.

Bet that mullet went far better than a bass of the same size.
