Hi all,
I’ve been at it again!! Went out Saturday night for the late HW. I got there just as it was starting to get dark and out the baits went.
Live hardback crab on both rods as far as I can chuck it.
I wasn’t waiting long for the first pull down of the evening, it put up a nice fight and at 8lbs 8oz, was a good start.
It was virtually fish after fish for the next hour or two with just enough time to bait up and sip a coffee in between, perfect!
No.2 put up a great fight, taking line on several occasions but I got it to my feet eventually, complete with a 5’ trail of that crappy Japanese weed with a rock attached to the bottom! The fish went 10lbs on the nose, nice to get a double.
The next two were smaller fish at 4lbs 13oz and 6lbs 12oz but I didn’t mind, even the smaller ones give a good account of themselves.
No.5 felt a better fish and produced the second double of the evening, again dead on 10lbs exactly…. I checked closely but I’m pretty certain it wasn’t the same fish! ?
I had a little longer to wait for no.6 but it was worth it, the battle with this one was immense. It was swimming back and fourth across 3 groins, causing me to keep climbing over the wooden breakwaters whilst trying to maintain tension on the line, it was tough going.
The biggest of the night was soon beached though and came in at 10lbs 14oz, 3 doubles in a session is never to be sniffed at!!
The tide slackened as HW approached, then the weed started to come on with more intent as the ebb took hold. I often find I get another run of hounds an hour or two down after high if I can put up with the weed but it was particularly bad and with the sun starting to come up, I decided to cut my losses and leave just before 4am.
I did miss one final fish in the dying moments but it wasn’t enough to persuade me to carry on.
I love nothing more than hound wrangling, this year has been really good for them so far, long May it continue!
