Thought I would have a little session at M B see what’s around and only a short drive from home , Trampster joined me as he fancied a few mackerel, boy the wind was strong and the tide was on the flood only 2 hours so the rocks were still exposed on the out side , there were a few people there when I got there they were mostly float fishing on the out side I saw them get a few small pollack and a few gar , I set up my 2 bottom rods , then joined Dave lure fishing for mackerel, we didn’t get a single bite from a Mackerel ah well that’s fishing , even the red and black seeker couldn’t find any .
This is Trampster 40836E56-2A03-4E4F-B1B1-3DE0558CA36E.jpeg634315EE-AE89-41CE-B6F6-DC146B801544.jpeg
Now it’s time to start bottom fishing as it was dusk , it wasn’t long before the bites started and soon the fish started .887F2341-B1BF-4E0A-89EA-AD49CF6AFB03.jpeg8837E94C-6CBF-4D1F-9334-0240D20268B3.jpeg
Pouting , nice big chunky ones small ones and poor cod , it was none stop for about 2 hours until I had enough , 2 at a time on both rods , they were giving big bites as well , I was only cast out about 30yards or so , I don’t think it mattered where I cast the pout were there , I must of had over 30 pout , at one time Dave was unhooking them for me . I know it was only pout but what a busy night .

You Rascal John - had me good & proper! ??

Having had a shout from John about a beach fishing trip earlier in the week, and not up to going, due to near Zero Kip the night before, it was good of him to give me another shout about going out to MB last night. I got there just after 5pm about an hour before John in an effort to beat the Traffic.

As John said, boy was the wind blowing, and cold - definitely not the summer season any more. I was off out the door from home in trousers & T-shirt, and it was a last minute thought to grab my "windproof" fishing jacket that Wifey kindly bought me. I daren't tell her that it's not 100% windproof! Should have put a fleece on, but didn't think I would need it.

Fishing? Least said the better! ?? John & I tried with different lures from both sides of the Pier - absolutely nothing about. Deadly quiet on the Fishy front until it got dark, and then John's bait rods went crazy! Double shots of Pout time after time, and at one point, having just climbed up on the wall for a last chuck with a Lure, John was shouting for help as he had double shots on both rods!

In fact, I was getting bloody cold, and there wasn't much chance of any Mackerel after Dusk (so no fresh fish in the pan for supper), and in between helping John, I started packing my gear up. Some photos:

The big Brittany ferries Santander ship went out just as I arrived, and the Roscoff (France) ship came in Just after 7.30pm.

John messaged me this morning to say a big ship came in just after I left but it would have been too dark for photos. It was the Ro-Ro ship Hurst Point, on contract to the Royal Marines.

I was getting really bloody cold so left about 9pm, thinking I might catch our local Chippy on the way home, but no such luck - they are now closing at 9pm instead of the 10pm it used to be.

Anyway, really good to get out, and great to have a bit of the usual banter with John - thanks mate! ??????

Take it picture at top is reversed as handles on wrong side of reel!
Do you mean the picture John took of me? The picture isn't reversed but that does look strange as I seem to have the rod in my left hand & the reel handle in my right. reel handle is actually on the left side so I can't figure that one out! ??

Nope the handles are on the left as I am right handed , they are fixed spools
I've heard people say about that before, and hadn't really noticed with yours John! I'm Left handed and still always have the reel handle on the left! Everyone to their own!

Maybe you could try the handle on the other side Dave

That top pic looks like dave has pulled the reel off the rod!!
Well done on the pouting?? and agree with @Tournamag , pout are ok to eat, fish pies, pan fried, or light curry batter, the dog loves them all??

Nah, been doing it that way for years, it works for me!

You can't teach an old Dog new tricks and all that! ??

John did ask if I wanted a few to take home, as they were coming in fast! They weren't really big enough for much more than a Fish Finger - too small for the effort involved in cleaning & filleting.

Out of curiosity, just looked up the minimum size for Pouting. 18cms seems way too low. 12cms less than Mackerel. ??

If 18cm is minimum size for pout loads of those were big enough

Maybe they were John, but still too small for me to be bothered with. Size limit should be bigger, as is the case for a few species. ??
