Hi all

Having not long started match fishing myself, I use a few different rods, Yuki A6 Sensitive, Akios Hellrazor and an Akios 420fx twin tip. Is there better more suited rods out there for match fishing? I don't know if these are over kill.
Thanks

I think the term "match' rod is not really that helpful.

If we look at match fishing as being the art of catching as many in size fish as possible, in a short a time as possible, what you need is a rod capable of putting the baited trace the required distance using sufficient lead to hold bottom and then get 3 fish to the shore without pulling hooks as quickly as possible.

Personally, Ive never cared much about bite detection, as I normally fish to the clock or the time it takes to rebait the spare rig.

Most of my match fishing is done with a zziplex Zeteque txl gt.

Not what you’d call a match rod, but I can sling three baits a long way with it, but still have the option of dropping short.

One very well known match angler I know uses poker stiff rods and when questioned about the lack of bite detection, he just said he didn’t care about bite detection, he just wanted to leave it out for ten or fifteen minutes and reel three fish in.

That's what I was trying to say 🤣

If you go to a match , preferably with a lot of anglers fishing it, you'll see all sorts of rods being used in multiplier and fixed spool configuration. All comes down what suits you and your budget but I would suggest that although the dedicated match anglers that consistently get results and have been at it for years may have high end rods and reels and the ability to use them they would still catch with budget kit as knowledge of the area and quality bait and knowing what to expect at different stages of the tide plays a far bigger part in success than the choice of rod.
