I had a nice day today, It started off with me calling over to meet Peter (aka Skaterboy) this morning. I knew I had to be at the right address when I saw the car registration number.
Peter, thanks for the bits and pieces. Much appreciated
Afterwards, I headed off down the Yorkshire/Holderness coast, having half a plan to stop by Mappleton, just to have a look and see what it was like. I'd seen one or two youtube videos, where some people had fished from there and wanted to see it for myself. Needless to say I missed the turning to the beach and ended up stopping at another village a bit further down the road. I spotted a sign saying something like 'This way to the beach'. I drove down as far as the end of the washed away road and the cliffs. That was definitely a no go.
Two Samosas later and I'm back in the car and off to Mappleton (again), on arrival I found a small 'free' carpark and it even had a couple of spaces!
The carpark is up on the cliff top and I could see that there were a few people already fishing off the beach. Nothing wrong with that at all, unless you're a fully paid up introvert like myself
I bottled it and left my spinning rod and gear in the car, but walked down to break the ice and have a quick chat with a couple of the Anglers on the beach. I'm glad I did because they were really decent guys, more than helpful and they even gave me some of their Lugworms to try. I think they were called Dave and Alan.
By the time I'd gone and collected my rod from the car, if was around 15 minutes before high tide and I had no expectations of catching anything at all. A little while later, I looked over to my right and Dave had just landed a Dogfish. I gave a thumbs up and a big smile. I was very pleased for him as I think they'd had a fairly quiet session.
At 17.15 it was my turn for a fish, my one and only from today, but I reckon it was a little bigger than my one other Flounder catch the other week.
This was caught on a 2 hook flapper, with salted Mackerel and I think a Lugworm too. I was once again chuffed to bits
I stayed until 18.30, as far as I could tell, I didn't have any other bites,, but boy did I enjoy the 3 hours of fishing.
