Guys (and girls),

I'd like to give my reels a bit of love - what lubricants (and cleaners) could you recommend?

In case it matters it's for a pair of Daiwa Surf Emblem.

No info on what you'd need for multipliers as i don't use them.
I hadn't heard of Daiwa Surf Emblems but Mr Google says they are fixed spool, and that's all I use.

For general cleaning of reels (and a wipe down for rods) I use a product called Scottoiler FS 365. It's an anti-corrosion spray for motor cycles.

For reel maintainance I use Penn reel grease for the bits that need greasing:

Or a drop of medium viscosity oil (3 in 1) or similar for the bits that need oiling. There are many specialist reel oils out there, but to my mind, they fall into the category of products more designed to catch Anglers than Fish!

Hope this helps - @blakdog is back would be the best guy to ask.

Cal's reel grease, ReelX for an oil and ACF50 for external protection. Whatever you use make sure it is corrosion resistant. Get it all except the ACF50 from blakdog. I would not recommend rocket fuel for fixed spool bearings. None of this is snakeoil but actually works.

Yes! 😋

It's why I ask - just need a general oil/grease for the shaft (no pun intended) and spool.

P.S. used gourmet bicycle bearing grease on the spools BUT it's too thick especially when it's cold.

I don't mind shelling out about £4 for decent reel grease - you don't need a lot. It's only about the price of a pint! For oil, just 3 in 1 or similar.

Rocket fuel for multiplier spool bearings, for other general lube jobs I use general lube's, same as I use on the car & bike.
oil can has got sae30 engine oil in it, grease gun normal moly grease.
You don't need anything fancy on a FS because nothing is spinning at high speed like a multi spool does,
so if you have have oil/grease for general household/DIY use use them.

I did try gourmet (Shimano) bicycle bearing grease BUT found it's a tad too thick especially in cold weather (and especially compared to the factory grease the reels came with) and found the FS wouldn't spin as easily as before (not a bad thing, just different behaviour). Once the bass ban begins in a few weeks I'll give the reels some loving 🍆

I'll report back soon on what I did (it won't be that interesting really)

I will give the Scottoiler FS 365 a go bud - thanks for the link. (y)

I have a can of ACF50 I use on my motorbikes for protection during the winter, will give it a try on my beach casters.
