Slid a few up the shingle last night (NYE) D9FB9F00-ABDE-4A84-9BCC-0E2D5903BABD.jpegand managed to oink this nice fish out, i wouldnt have done it without my new best friend. The night before i was cursing my last sessions loss and decided a gaff was what i need. 30mins later i no longer had an extendable broom but probably the best bit of fishing kit i have never owned. Forget 60k boats and nimbus 2000 magic wands as rods a GAFF is the answer to fishing the rough and an extendable one at that!
Quite simply take the thickest tent peg you have in the tent peg draw bend it to the shape of a gaff (look on google for reference) and grind a point on the pointy end. I then used some old 30lb braid off a jigging reel to bind the pointing bit to the extendable bit and then smother in epoxy and rotate whilst heating with a hair dryer to get the resin to look shiny and glassy.

Oh yes the fishing. Well 2.5 -4m swell was interesting but i fished it hard at the periods i thought would be worth it and boy was it worth it for the last session of the year.

Happy New Year everybody and tight lines

Well done on the cod. ?
Question on the gaff.! Wouldn't it have been easier to fill the hole in the shaft with epoxy and insert the tent peg.?
I did think that but it only had like 5-10mm of hole that diameter so the rest of it wouldn’t be doing anything. I even thought about 3d printing something that attaches the hook to the screw but then that wouldnt take 30mins. More like 12 hrs

My Father had a gaff end that had a threaded end to fasten to something. I could never remember what the handle was, it would not have been extendable in them days 1960's i don't think. But now it could well have been able to fit on a net handle as they screw together at the end.
Lost it years ago as the brother in law removed all my tackle once.

Nice, well done!

How many coddies did you get and what weights did they go mate?
